Shiver me timbers! If you love pirates, it’s your lucky day. Ramsgate has its own pirate festival, with multiple venues involved. Plunder will be launching its Thanet Smuggler Experience, alongside a Pirate Parade (midday start). The New Belgian Bar will host children’s workshops (10am - 2pm) and live music (from 2pm). There are more pirate parties at The Horse & Groom and The Queen’s Head (from 3pm), as well as treasure hunts and pirate shows at Frankie’s (1.30 - 4.30pm). Don’t forget your eyepatches.

Give POM(US) at Fort Road A Try

Did you know that POMUS have taken over the dining room at Fort Road Hotel? Say hi to POM(US) at Fort Road.

They’ve quietly relaunched the restaurant offering with a menu packed full of French and English bistro classics such as moules frites, ham hock and chicken terrine or a pick a fresh crunchy caesar salad.

Whether you sit outside and watch the world go by on Fort Hill or grab a table inside, order from the seasonal changing natural wine menu, linger over a delicious lunch and enjoy simple food, done well and served with a smile. Hit The Harbour Arm. Don’t Miss POM

As well as bistro classics, POMUS have made a name for themselves for the ‘posh snacks’ that you crave with a chilled glass of wine, on a Saturday afternoon when sitting in the sunshine in Margate is the best place to be in the UK.

POM, their summer pop up on the Harbour Arm really delivers. Think ‘good’ olives, burrata, oysters, anchovies - basically it’s the picnic of dreams, but on a table with a view, with amazing natural sparkling wine and no one’s eating off plastic plates.

The food and wine menu changes monthly depending on what’s available and seasonal but it’ll always be deli style fish, meat, cheese and veggies on offer, so you can nibble on something delicious, soak up that sun and toast your great decision to visit / live in Margate.

DMM’s picks: Anchovies, rosemary and lemon and oysters mignonette.

Don’t Forget The OG: POMUS

Who knew The Centre was where the foodie tribes of Margate would flock to, but POMUS has become my dead cert fave for special meals, birthday treats and the place where small plates actually fill you up.

A menu that ranges from light and delicate to seriously stuffed that changes with the seasons and isn’t afraid to mix things up, POMUS has consistently delivered with delicious pairings plus their service is always on point - friendly, authoritative and they don’t leave you frantically trying to make eye contact to place an order (for more wine).

And it’s about to come into its own with outside tables that mean you can soak up the sun for a little longer.

DMM’s picks: Chicken karaage, maple syrup, togarashi and Torched mackerel, rillette, blackcurrants, beetroot, dill.

One Ocean: Don’t Miss The First Ocean Summit in Thanet

Living in Thanet, we feel the sea. The changing colours. The every changing mood of the water but also the slow creep of coastal erosion as bits of cliffs crumble and winter storms damage our coastline.

If you swim, snorkel, paddleboard, go crabbing or just enjoy sitting on the beach in Thanet, you’ll want to understand how we can help protect our seas.

Which is why I’m so excited that Turner in Margate is hosting the first ocean conservation festival, One Ocean 2026, a free two-day summit on art, activism and oceans, that will take place on Sat 20 and Sun 21 June.

⚓ Operation Dynamo: The Little Ships Return

Following last year’s 85th anniversary, the Little Ships are back in Ramsgate for a four-day programme of events. I’m not lying when I say that this was probably one of my favourite weekends in Ramsgate last year. There are military vehicle displays, an illuminated Tommy Silhouette Parade at sundown, a moving sunset ceremony by the Sea Cadets, and live music outside of the Queen’s Head. I don’t know about you, but Dreamland’s park reopening is the start of the summer season for me. The park’s reinvention was on one of the reasons I moved to Margate over seven years ago, after happy day trips exploring everything Dreamland and life by the sea had to offer.

From the whizzy waltzer to taking in Margate from the air, there’s something wonderful about indulging your inner child in the sunshine. Good job it’s nearly time to pop down and scream if you want to go faster.

Here’s a quick overview of how the park works before, kids, friends and families start demanding to visit.

Will it be the chair-o-plane, ghost train, classic waltzer or will you take it up a notch with the 50-foot plunge on the Wild River log flume which was introduced last year?

Coming for summer 2026, young visitors will be able to hop in their own canoe and enjoy a ride on Little River, right next door.

See the whole of Margate and our glittering seas from the top of the Big Wheel or challenge your mates to the dodgems.

Indulge in a spot of nostalgia cruising around the Roller Disco and of course you can’t go home without at least trying to win something at the arcades (the basketball game is my fave).

How To Get Your Tickets

Don’t forget entry to the park is free, you only pay for the rides. Wristbands and tokens are available to buy from the main token booths when you arrive.

• All day wristbands are still only £24.99 for all of the rides.

• Tiny Tots wristbands for smaller riders are £12.99 (T&Cs apply).

• Standard Ride Tokens are £3 each (1 ride, 1 token) or get 20 Tokens for £40.

• Pick up a Season Wristband and ride all summer long for £99.99 (Tiny Tots Season Wristband £54.99)

Don’t Miss Your Dreamland Experience in 2026

The 2026 season has just started and the park will be open every day, from Fri 3 April until (and including) Sun 19 April for the Easter holidays.

It will then be open weekends and school holidays until the summer season.

Summer season starts on 18 July and the park will be open every day over the summer holidays, before returning for October half term.

Dreamland’s opening times are 10.30am - 6pm, rides open from 11am.
